TONER MASK THE KOREAN DIY SHEET MASK TRICK

We have previously discussed "The 7 skin method", a technique that involves applying seven layers of toner at the same time as a way to deeply hydrate the skin and achieve a "glass skin" effect.

While products like toners and light essences can really hydrate and nourish deep into the skin, applying seven layers can be time-consuming and challenging for some, especially if you're in a rush in the morning and need to do your hair and eat breakfast before rushing off. .

Therefore, we want to talk about something called "Toner Mask" or "skin pack" in Korean. You can think of it as a miniature DIY sheet mask. It's the fastest, easiest way to moisturise, soothe and smooth skin in under five minutes, and you can do it in the morning or at night. It also leaves no residue on the skin, making it easy to apply makeup over and handy when you have to do other tasks while getting ready.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO CREATE YOUR TONER MASK?

What you need for a toner mask is quite simple. First, you need a moisturizing product of your choice. You can choose a mist, a toner, or a thin essence, depending on how much product you're willing to use and what you have available. We suggest you start by choosing a product that your skin already knows and loves, to avoid irritation. Feel free to choose a product with mild and moisturizing ingredients, such as rice water, heart petals or centella asiatica, as well as nutritious antioxidants. Avoid products with alcohol, as these can dry out the skin. "Toner masking" is also a genius space-saving travel hack, as you get two products in one.

The second thing you need is cotton pads. Choose either multi-layer cotton pads, which you can divide into thinner sheets, or our Haruharu Wonder WONDER Ultra Fit Facial Pads 50EA , thin Korean pads from Haruharu.

You can of course also use toner pads , which are already soaked in toner or essence . This is a product that has become incredibly popular recently, and the range is therefore large. We link to our favorites further down in the article.

HOW DO YOU USE A TONER MASK?

After you have double cleansed the skin with an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based cleanser and toned the skin, you are ready for "toner masking". Start by thoroughly moistening cotton pads with toner or essence. The idea is to wet them thoroughly so that the cotton pad easily adheres to your face without dripping everywhere or falling off. If you don't wet it enough, the cotton pad can dry out faster and thus not provide enough moisture to your skin. After you have soaked the cotton pad, place it on the parts of your face that you want to moisturize and soothe. If using multi-layer cotton pads, separate them into individual sheets and attach them. If you are using ready-made toner pads, take them out of the package as usual and apply them to your face. Feel free to focus on dry areas, such as the cheeks and forehead, but it depends on your skin, so do what your skin needs. Avoid the eye area.

HOW LONG SHOULD THE MASK WORK?

How long you should leave it on depends on the product and the cotton pad you're using, but generally about three to ten minutes should be enough - the important thing is that the cotton pad doesn't dry out on your skin. If the pads are on your face for too long, they can draw moisture from your skin instead of adding moisture. So after a few minutes, check the moisture level of the cotton pad from time to time by gently feeling it. If you notice that the cotton pad starts to dry a little and feels warm to the touch, it's time to remove it. If there is product residue on your skin, gently pat your skin to help it absorb the product. You can then continue with the rest of your skincare routine.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU USE THE TONER MASK

This depends on the needs of the skin. Generally, it is considered beneficial to do it once or twice a week. But you can also use a toner mask when your skin needs an extra boost of radiance or moisture, like before a big event or a flight.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TONER MASK AND SHEET MASK?

Sheet masks have their benefits, but toner masks are a more practical way to increase your skin's moisture if you're in a hurry, have run out of sheet masks, or want to target specific areas instead of moisturizing your entire face.

Toner masking is also a better way to prepare your skin for makeup and for many will be a good option on the day before applying makeup: Sheet masks often contain a lot of essence or serum, which gives lots of moisture and volume to the skin, but can also create too thick a layer of product that causes foundation to slide or clump. In this way, toner masking is more practical, fast and versatile than the traditional sheet mask.

If you need a real moisture boost or if you want to target specific skin problems, the toner mask cannot necessarily replace the traditional sheet mask, but it can be seen as a complement to days when your skin needs more moisture, you want to moisturize specific areas of the face, or as an alternative to the 7 skin method before applying foundation.
